System Requirements

FRC does not state hard requirements. These are more in the nature of guidelines, based on practical experience.

While there are no officially stated PC hardware requirements from FRC for robot SW development (they do specify the computer for the offseason FRC Field Management System though), from past experience we see that a PC with Intel Core i5 processor or its equivalent. Although a system with 4 GB RAM might work, it is recommended to have 8 GB of RAM and preferably an SSD drive with at least 50 GB free storage capacity .
For vision processing a system with 16 GB RAM would work better.

While a few of the tools required for FRC SW development, notably VSCode will work on Linux systems, several of the most important ones will require Windows as a development platform.

Therefore it is recommended to use Windows 10.

At this time a Chromebook would not satisfy the requirements
>= 4 GB or greater of RAM (ideal amount for running Google Chrome and VScode).
>= 100 GB of hard disk space (you won't need much disk space; just enough to install coding programs and support the operating system).
Fairly up to date CPU; 5th gen Intel and up (not as important as RAM, but helps with launching programs faster and starting up the PC).
You will need wireless capabilities.
